After the Demongate War, when the battlefields of the mortal world were brimming with the fallen, Verja, a devout servant of Sigel and wife to Viðarr, scoured the battlefield for the remains of her fellow servants of the Sun when she was approached by a cowled figure in black, who was accompanied by an enormous murder of crows. As the birds started reanimating the remains of the fallen and attacking the young warrior maiden, Verja lashed out against the forces of darkness and slew them all with her sword. When only the robed man remained, she confronted him. The man introduced himself as Nirhrafn and told her: “I, who command the fallen, have chosen you to slay and bring before the thrones of my masters, for you are the most brave of all defenders of good.” Without uttering one word, Verja beheaded the man right as the sun rose behind her and swore to seek out other evil mages and bring them to the sword.

After her long life of crusading, which brought death to many a servant of evil. Sigel and Scaetha called to Verja's soul and summoned her to them. Before the eyes of the gods, her soul was elevated to the status of minor god, forever entrusted with the fight against the heretics who would sully the name of good.

Verja is the protector of those fighting evil, and is, thus, mainly worshiped in areas close to the Withered Lands and the Liche Lands. Important shrines to Verja can be found in Deathwatch and Icewatch Fort. Verja is sometimes worshiped by Watchers of the Black Gate and soldiers of the Deathwatch. Prayers to Verja are typically offered at sunrise and involve the cleric meditating over his weapon. Some small statues of Verja exist in temples of Sigel and these depict her as a female warrior in full plate armor pointing her sword downward towards the abyss or into the direction of the tomb of the liche priest.

Character Guidelines: While priests protect temples and research the enemies of the faith, paladins are tasked with going out and hunting down demonists and evil clerics. As such, they need decent combat skills and Guts but can also profit from edges such as Alertness or high ratings in Tracking, Streetwise and Notice. Priests who specialize in research usually have high investigation or knowledge skills concerning demons. Champion and Holy Warrior are a must-have and many clerics of Verja also possess Favored Foe (Undead) or Favored Foe (Demons) to be more effective at combating the minions their enemies call forth.
